George Bernard Shaw adapted his own play for the screen in this film version of the romance between Caesar (Claude Rains) and Cleopatra (Vivien Leigh). The story opens when Cleopatra, who hasn't been Queen for very long, meets  the much older and segacious Julius Caesar in the shadow of the Sphinx. Beguiled by her innocence and charm Caesar begins to education the young queen in the ways of kingship. Caesar and Cleopatra is slightly uneven in parts but has some superb stand out scenes that capture perfectly Shaw's sharp wit.
